Alice, Ranching History & the McGill Brothers Building

Alice provides a recognizable example of the ranching and commercial history found throughout inland South Texas. Claude and Frank McGill became prominent South Texas ranchers and were active in the regional cattle industry during the early twentieth century.

Frank McGill built the McGill Brothers Building in Alice in 1941 to provide offices for the family’s ranching operations. The Texas Historical Commission records that the building was donated to the South Texas Museum Corporation in 1975 and was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1994.
